Position Opening: Deputy Clerk

The Deputy Clerk performs a variety of routine and complex clerical and administrative functions relating to the recording and retention of official Town records and assists with conducting and overseeing elections as needed. This position consists of administrative and fiscal work involving the handling of Town funds.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Greets and serves customers at the counter and processes all transactions including but not limited to:
  • New/renewal vehicles/boats/snowmobiles/ATV’s registrations.
  • Sales of various licenses: IE: Hunting/Fishing, Dog licenses, Birth/Death/Marriage Certificates, Marriage Licenses.
  • Processes and records all cemetery lot sales.
  • Receives payment for all accounts receivables.
  • Receives and receipts payments for property taxes.
  • Processes voter registrations and issues/receives absentee ballots.
  • Responds to inquiries and assists customers with various questions and concerns and refers complex issues to the appropriate leadership employee for follow-up.
  • Answers phone calls and e-mails.
  • Maintains Vital Records o Maintains election records in State Central Voter Registration system o Aids with coordinating and carrying out elections and serves as 2nd in command
  • Assists with reporting sales to various state agencies o Assists Clerk with additional tasks as requested
  • Must get along with others and work in a professional manner

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Thorough knowledge of the correct use of English grammar – punctuation, and spelling
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office – specifically Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of mathematical calculations and account reconciliations
  • Excellent organizational skills

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 Experience and Education/Training:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with a four (4) year degree in accounting or related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience
